South Jersey Families: The HBCU Marching Tradition Is Worth the Drive
South and Central New Jersey families are discovering that TME in Baltimore offers something the entire NJ youth arts landscape lacks: HBCU majorette culture, national DCI competition, and a multi-discipline program for ages 6 through adult — all accessible on weekends.
What South & Central New Jersey Doesn't Have — TME Does
New Jersey has a strong scholastic marching band tradition through the Tournament of Bands (TOB) and Tournament Indoor Association (TIA), but these are school-affiliated programs. The HBCU majorette tradition and national DCI competition circuit are not represented in NJ's independent youth arts community.
Jersey Surf and other NJ drum corps focus on older competitive performers. For families in South Jersey who want their child in a community-based, nationally competitive, HBCU-rooted program starting as young as age 6, TME is the closest and most comprehensive option available.
Built for Families Who Travel
We designed our schedule so that families from South & Central New Jersey can fully participate without a daily commute. Weekend rehearsals are the core commitment; virtual lessons fill the gaps.
